Why doesn't EcoEnclose Offer White Recycled Packaging?
Last Updated: 10/24/2017

We do get requests for white boxes, mailers, or paper at times. It is our goal to provide the most eco-friendly options on the market, and oftentimes that translates into plain brown kraft.

Here are two common reasons you don’t see a lot of white 100% recycled product on the market:

1. Cost. Aside from the environmental benefits most consumers use recycled packaging papers because they are often cheaper than the virgin grades. Creating white paper requires an extra bleaching process, which raises the costs of production and negates the price advantage you would have with the product.

2. Demand. Many FDA approved grades of material are constructed with white kraft sheets, but FDA regulations essentially require the producers to use virgin material (for recycled product it’s very difficult to clean them to a point where you can guarantee there are no contaminants in the sheet). This leads to a market where most of the production volume used for this white grades is for virgin product, so getting a virgin white sheet is relatively easy, but finding a recycled white sheet is difficult because no one really has the incentive to run it.

We understand aesthetic and the desire to use white paper, but brown kraft offers the most sustainable option. Brown kraft packaging also helps us to remember where that material is coming from... our trees, and re-enforces the necessity to preserve them and reuse what we can. Thank you for saving our trees and supporting EcoEnclose!
