What are EcoEnclose biodegradable poly mailers and bubble mailers made from?
Last Updated: 01/28/2011
Plastics (or polymers) are synthetic and designed to be incredibly stable.  The standard poly mailer or bubble mailer made from pure plastic has proven a popular, reliable, and affordable packaging option.   But their air-tight and water-tight dependability comes at a cost - they do not easily biodegrade and will endure for centuries - possibly forever.

Corn or sugar-based plastics are less reliable in stability and our findings show they cannot be used with confidence in packaging when being exposed to the elements during normal transportation.

Oxo-biodegradable plastics are similar in reliability to corn or sugar-based plastics.  But their stability is only shaken by very specific environments with a strong concentration of oxygen and UV light or heat before they will biodegrade.  They will only break down under very specific environmental conditions.  Even then, they do not biodegrade but rather fragment into smaller particles of plastic invisible to the naked eye that will remain in the environment for an indefinite length of time.

A proprietary organic additive is added to the polyethylene material used to produce EcoEnclose poly mailers and bubble mailers.  This achieves a very stable and entirely dependable biodegradable plastic that breaks down entirely into biomass and humus without requiring UV light, heat, or oxygen to biodegrade.  EcoEnclose poly mailers and bubble mailers will biodegrade at any depth even in landfills!  Before breaking down, our mailers must be in contact with soil (where other things are biodegrading – like compost or landfill) before it will start disintegrating.  They do not require special handling or storage like sugar or starch based plastics and oxodegradable products and they do not release any heavy metals.    In other words, have no fear!  EcoEnclose mailers are guaranteed to remain fully intact during shipping and have the same shelf-life as your standard plastic mailer.
