Frequently Asked Questions

What are zipper poly bags?

Zipper poly bags are flexible, resealable plastic bags made from polyethylene (poly) that feature a built-in zipper track for repeated opening and closing. They provide a reusable, airtight seal that helps protect products from moisture, dust, and dirt without requiring heat sealing.

What are zipper poly bags used for?

Zipper poly bags are commonly used for packaging, organizing, and shipping products across industries including retail, eCommerce, medical, and fulfillment. They’re especially useful when customers need to access products multiple times or reuse the packaging after delivery.

Are poly bags sustainable?

While many poly bags are not environmentally friendly, EcoEnclose’s poly bags are an exception. We champion sustainability by using 100% recycled materials and ensuring that our bags are recyclable. Additionally, our bags are free from BPA.

Typically, poly bags can be taken to specific drop-off locations for recycling, but we offer a take-back program for consumers who lack access to thin film recycling facilities. These customers can return their bags directly to EcoEnclose.

We choose LDPE (low-density polyethylene) over PVC, PP, or other plastics due to its superior recyclability in the U.S., enhanced protection, and overall sustainability. Although LDPE is slightly less transparent than polypropylene, its recyclability and flexibility make it a better choice.

We are often asked about degradable or biodegradable poly bags. We do not offer these for several reasons. Such plastics are designed to break down quickly, but they do not fully decompose. Instead, they fragment into microplastics or emit methane as they degrade, which significantly impacts greenhouse gas emissions.

Bioplastics, on the other hand, are usually made from virgin materials rather than recycled content and require industrial composting facilities for decomposition. This makes them less sustainable than they might initially appear.

Are zipper poly bags recyclable?

Yes. Zipper poly bags are considered thin film plastic and may be recyclable through store drop-off or thin film recycling programs, depending on local availability. Always check your local recycling guidelines for accepted materials.

What is the difference between adhesive-seal poly bags and zipper-seal poly bags?

EcoEnclose offers two poly bags: our original poly bag with an adhesive seal and our new poly bag with a zipper seal.

The key differences between adhesive-sealed poly bags and zipper-sealed poly bags are their sealing mechanisms, reusability, and level of protection.

Adhesive-Seal Poly Bags:

  • These bags close with an adhesive strip, making the sealing process quick and efficient, speeding up fulfillment.
  • They are more cost-effective and are designed for single-use applications.
  • They are ideal for shipments where the packaging won’t be reused, such as for apparel, documents, or items that don’t require repeated access or extra moisture protection.
  • As these bags are typically single-use, they contribute more to plastic waste. However, all of our poly bags are thin film recyclable at the end of their life. Sharing recycling guidance with your customers can help extend the material’s usefulness.
  • They are FDA-Compliant, meaning the product is compliant with FDA rules and regulations and is created with materials that are FDA-Approved.

Zipper-Seal Poly Bags:

  • These bags feature a zipper closure that allows them to be opened and closed multiple times, making them reusable.
  • They provide better water resistance than adhesive-seal poly bags, offering additional protection for products that need to stay moisture-free.
  • Choose zipper-sealed poly bags when reusability or moisture protection is important. They are ideal for electronics, small parts, or items your customers may want to store in the poly bag.
  • The reusability of these bags can reduce the need for additional packaging materials, potentially lowering environmental impact when reused by customers.
  • They are not FDA-Compliant, meaning the product is not compliant with FDA rules and regulations and is not created with materials that are FDA-Approved.

What must I know about the zipper strength on the XS and S bag sizes?

On our size XS and S sizes, the zipper strength is high. This means that if you open the bag close to the top, the zipper may stay sealed and the plastic material may tear.

To open without any tearing, we recommend gripping as close to the top of zipper before pulling open. This helps reduce stress on the material to mitigate tearing. We're actively working on design improvements to make opening these bags easier on the next production run. If you experience high breakage rates, please contact us to work with us on a solution.
