Can I order glassine bags with custom branding?
Yes - We can custom brand our glassine bags at low minimum order quantities, starting at just 500 units. If you’re choosing glassine over a standard virgin poly bag, tell your plastic-free story to your customers with your custom branding. Let them know why you’ve chosen paper over plastic, what this decision means to your brand, and how to dispose of the bag at the end of its useful life. Many consumers may not realize these bags are paper and curbside recyclable.
Can I print glassine bags with Algae Ink™?
Yes - We are thrilled to offer algae ink as a printing option on glassine bags. Learn more about algae ink here and select algae ink as your ink color when placing your custom order.
What are the differences between EcoEnclose's suite of inner packaging solutions?
All of these bags are designed to protect apparel and other soft goods from the point at which they are produced at a factory (often overseas) to the time they reach the retailer or end consumer. We refer to them as “inner packaging” because they aren’t intended to be used as shipping mailers and instead are for product protection during transport across their supply chain. Historically, a virgin clear poly bag has been the primary solution for this type of inner packaging. Thankfully, many forward-thinking fashion brands are looking for more circular, value-aligned options for their internal packaging.
Because supply chains are unique and complex, we recognize that no one-size-fits-all solution will work for every brand. Some need complete product protection, others need waterproof material, and others need transparency or translucency. As a result, we have developed a full line of more circular options than a standard virgin poly bag. Our Comprehensive Guide to Inner Packaging provides an excellent overview of our choices, why and how we’ve developed them, and which to choose for your specific operations.
Can I use glassine bags to protect and ship art?
Yes - With their toothless, smooth finish and translucency, glassine bags are a polished way to provide inner protection to your art pieces. The bags are sized more for apparel than art, so you may need to size up rather than find dimensions that fit your prints to their exact size. Additionally, these bags contain a print on both sides and subtle air vents that allow air to be released when packaged at the factory. These design features are fine for most art companies.
Why are EcoEnclose glassine bags resealable?
This feature is based on direct feedback from the brands themselves. Many complicated supply chains require that bags be opened so apparel can be checked, scanned, and sorted at distribution centers or 3PL fulfillment centers. The adhesive is strong and does not readily come apart unless someone actively tries to open the bag.
Why did EcoEnclose choose a non-domestic partner for glassine bags?
Historically, these bags were manufactured in China. While we are now opening up domestic manufacturing for these bags, we will continue manufacturing lines in China. Why? Glassine bags are used for inner product protection rather than as a shipping solution. For most companies, the essential function of glassine bags or clear poly bags is to protect products (typically apparel) as they are transported from the manufacturer to distribution centers to retail stores or fulfillment centers. Because many brands manufacture their products in Asia, it makes ecological sense also to manufacture internal packaging in Asia. Vela Glassine Bags are manufactured in Dongguan, China, in a facility with very high social standards and compliance requirements and adheres to the “Workplace Standards” of some of the world’s largest apparel and footwear brands. The facility was SA8000 certified from 2014-2017 and is ISO 14001 & ISO 9001 certified.
The paper used to manufacture these Eco Glassine Bags comes from British Columbia, Canada. The tree species used are a controlled blend of Western Yellow; Red Cedar and BC Interior Spruce, Pine; Fir (SPF). We recognize that many brands manufacture goods in North America. Some companies produce their apparel in-house and use internal packaging to separate and protect finished goods in their domestic warehouse. Finally, we know artists often use glassine to protect their goods. Because of these situations, we are pleased to launch US manufacturing of these bags in 2023.
