What is the difference between the EcoX 2.0 and the original?
When we released the EcoX mailer in 2020, we received feedback that companies wanted an even stronger and more durable option.
Our latest version is still highly water resistant due to the specific sizing agents in the mailer, all of which are plastic free. However, the mailer is thicker and made with less post-consumer waste, giving the material more strength.
Decreasing the post-consumer waste was a difficult decision for us, given our focus on circularity. The benefits of a mailer that could help more companies achieve their plastic-free packaging goals was worth the slight decrease in post-consumer waste.
If I want a plastic-free poly mailer, is the EcoX a good option for me?
Kudos to you for considering plastic-free alternatives to poly mailers! When going plastic-free, we recommend using mailers made of natural fibers over compostable bioplastics, which aren't ideal for eCommerce. Learn more here and here.
Additionally, we also encourage you to choose 100% recycled paper packaging whenever possible. Or, if that’s not feasible, to seek out certified sustainable paper or next-generation fibers.
A common misconception is that going from plastic to paper is always a great transition and that all paper is good. Unfortunately, much of today’s paper comes from ancient and endangered forests, and brands transitioning to paper must be thoughtful about where their paper is sourced.
With our paper hierarchy and framework, we believe that 100% recycled, paper-based packaging with high post-consumer waste levels is a great alternative to plastic poly mailers. EcoEnclose offers six options that satisfy those criteria, three of which are great solutions for apparel companies: the Paper Apparel Mailer, the Kraft Mailer, and the EcoX Mailer.

What are the differences between EcoEnclose's suite of paper mailers?
In general, we consider the 100% Recycled Kraft Mailer to be our economy option. It is the least expensive, thinnest paper mailer we offer, and has 90% or more post-consumer waste. In general, we tell companies that if the Kraft mailer already works for them, they can stick with it—it's a great plastic-free mailer!”
The EcoX is our value option. It is thicker than the Kraft Mailer (11 pt versus 10 pt) and has only 70% post-consumer waste. The remaining 30% is post-industrial, which has stronger and cleaner fibers, giving the mailer a higher level of strength. It’s an excellent choice for companies that need stronger packaging, and/or want a little extra water protection.
Explore the differences between post-industrial and post-consumer waste.
The Paper Apparel Mailer is our premium option. It is the most expensive of the three, but utilizes the thickest paperboard of them all, and has top and bottom creasing for expandability and a clean, classy finish.
All three are 100% recycled, curbside recyclable, and naturally biodegradable.
Which is more eco-friendly - a 100% recycled poly mailer or a 100% recycled paper mailer?
100% recycled poly options have a lower carbon footprint, offer more protection, and come at a lower overall cost than 100% recycled paper alternatives. However, because they’re made of thin film, they typically need to be recycled at grocery store drop-off bins (or sent back to EcoEnclose), which can make proper recycling more complicated for the average household.
100% recycled paper mailers are curbside recyclable and naturally biodegradable (so if they do end up as litter, they’ll break down over time rather than lingering in landfills or oceans). However, paper mailers do have a higher carbon footprint, are more expensive, and space-intensive to ship and store.
What curbside recyclable mailer does EcoEnclose recommend?
All of our paper mailers are 100% recycled and curbside recyclable, making them a great option for brands pursuing a plastic-free packaging strategy. Each mailer offers reliable performance, so you can choose the best fit based on your sizing and shipping needs, knowing that every option is both effective and eco-friendly.
